Alweer de laatste Guilty Pleasure en ja, het gaat weer over Duitsland, nouja, meer dan over hun geweldige kerstmarkten. Want wow, niemand doet kerstmarkten beter dan onze Oosterburen. Ja, we proberen het in Nederland maar toch ontbreekt er dan altijd net dat beetje wat ze in Duitsland dan net wel hebben. Wat het precies is, kan ik niet uitleggen, maar de worsten smaken er beter, de gluhwein en pretzels….en oh die gesuikerde macadamias noten.
In Dusseldorf zijn op verschillende pleinen kerstmarkten rond deze tijd en ik weet ook altijd precies bij wie ik de curryworst wil halen, welke notenman de lekkerste macadamia’s heeft en waar ze de leukste koekharten hebben. Om 17.00 uur als de kantoren sluiten komt iedereen gezellig een warme gluhwein drinken in de prieel op het plein in AltStadt en met al die lichtjes is de sfeer altijd zo gezellig.
Voor mij is Dusseldorf wel m’n favoriet als het gaat om kerstmarkten maar aangezien het mij dit jaar waarschijnlijk niet lukt daar nog even heen te gaan, ben ik blij dat iets dichterbij, in Kleve, ook een heel schattig marktje is naast de dierentuin (er is ook nog een grotere verderop in de stad) maar de kleine is perfect om even over heen te lopen en sfeer te proeven (en de typische lekkernijen) na de maandelijkse boodschappen.
En dat deed ik dus afgelopen vrijdag even. En dat was dus net wat ik nodig had om in de kerstsfeer te komen. Want hoewel het toch echt al december is, had ik dus nog helemaal niet dat gevoel. Normaal ben ik namelijk allang bezig met het kerstmenu, de ingrediënten te verzamelen en m’n huis te versieren. Echter, dit jaar ben ik er niet met kerst, dus mis ik dat het een beetje. Maar gelukkig kan zo’n schattig marktje dan toch dat gevoel een beetje geven. En die curryworst natuurlijk, want december is niet compleet zonder op z’n minst 1 curryworst te eten ;).
Ook even sfeer willen proeven maar niet te ver willen rijden. De kerstmarkt in Kleve (naast de dierentuin) is er nog tot 10 december en dagelijks geopend van 15.00 uur tot 21.00 uur.

It’s the last Guilty Pleasure and yep, it’s again about Germany. Or more so about their Christmas markets. As wow, nobody does christmas markets better that our Easter neighbors. Yes, we do try in The Netherlands, but somehow it’s just not the same as in Germany. I can’t put my finger on it, but the sausages just taste better, the gluhwein and pretzels….and oh those sugared macadamian nuts.
In Dusseldorf they have a few christmas markets divided over the city and i know exactly which one serves the best curry sausages, which nut booth has the best macadamians and where they sell the best heart shaped cookies. At 17.00 when the offices are closing, everyone gathers at the Gazebo at the square in Altstadt to drink a nice warm gluhwein and with all the little lights it’s just so cozy.
For me, Dusseldorf is my favorites when it comes to christmas markets but as i probability don’t have time this year to go there, i’m happy that there’s this really cute little market nearby, in Kleve, next to the zoo (there’s also a bigger one in Kleve) but the small one is perfect to get into the christmas spirit and taste all the goodies after getting my monthly foodhaul.
So that’s exactly what i did last Friday. And that was exactly what i needed to get into the Christmas spirit. ‘Cause eventhough it really is December already, i still don’t have that feeling. Normally i’m already busy thinking about Christmas dinner, buying ingredients and decorating my house. However, this year i’m not home, so i kinda miss that. But luckly this cozy little fair got me in the spirit a bit. And ofcourse the curry sausage, as December is not complete without eating atleast one ;).
Also feel like getting in the Christmas spirit, but don’t want to drive too far. The Christmas Fair in Kleve (next to the zoo) is on till December 10 and daily open from 15.00 hours till 21.00 hours.
